The EU-funded ODYSSEA project was given pride of place at the 83rd Thessaloniki International Fair, Greece’s leading exhibition with over 1500 stands, held September 8-16, 2018.
ODYSSEA was chosen as a key project by the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) to feature at its delegation’s exhibit.
“The inclusion of ODYSSEA in the DUTH stand in one the biggest exhibitions in Southeastern Europe allows us to come into direct contact with the public and underlines the support of the University for research and innovation,” said ODYSSEA Coordinator Prof. Georgios Sylaios, who is also director of the DUTH Laboratory of Ecological Engineering and Technology.
DUTH Laboratory of Ecological Engineering and Technology researcher Dr. Ioannis Tsakmakis gave a presentation on the results of research and innovation projects funded by the EU HORIZON 2020 programmes, including ODYSSEA.
The presentation was attended by Greek Minister of Education Kostas Gavroglou. He and hundreds of other participants were briefed about activities carried out in the framework of ODYSSEA and other HORIZON 2020 projects, as well as the next steps planned. Thousands of visitors visited the DUTH exhibit and were received by members of the DUTH team.
Cyprus, India, Portugal, Bulgaria, Poland, Luxembourg, Indonesia, Iran, Romania, Russia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Turkey, FYROM, Bangladesh, China, Egypt and Italy were among the countries participating in the fair, alongside this year’s honored country, the USA.
The USA’s delegation featured the participation of dozens of top executives from such companies as Facebook, Google, Intel, HP, Oracle, Microsoft and Lockheed Martin, and was headed by Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. The USA pavilion included stands of 60 business giants and agencies, from various sectors of industry, security and defense, pharmaceuticals, and educational institutions.
The Greek pavilion featured 130 high-tech start-ups within the Digital Greece theme park, at the joint initiative of the Ministry of Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Information and TIF Helexpo itself.
